Upper East Side Loft With Transitional Design

Upper East Side Loft With Transitional Design

Redesign living room from the pre-war period

When looking for the “perfect” New York City apartment, you can choose your battles. A room with lots of light and large windows can affect proximity to public transportation. When grabbing an apartment in the school district you want, you may have to settle for less than optimal space. For Lisa and Anthony, the clients for this particular project, finding the charming pre-war apartment of their dreams meant getting by with a space that offered below average storage space and natural light. Nothing that a seasoned interior designer couldn’t fix!

Our first step was to completely rethink the decor of the living room and implement a modern interior design with efficient storage solutions for the home, space-saving furniture layout and decorative accessories that add a touch of shine and light to the under-lit interior. A palette of light grays and ivory colors has been applied to the wall paint, carpeting and upholstery, creating a refined, modern feel and highlighting the elegant pre-war details of the room.

Similar decorating ideas were incorporated into the bedrooms and family areas, spaces that needed to be both quiet and practical. A muted monochrome palette was incorporated into the bedding, furniture, and colors, while sheer and light-colored accessories made the spaces feel open and airy.

The last step was to create a functional small home office design that offers space in the tightest of spaces while offering storage space and versatility. Our designers created a custom-made desk that offers a spacious work surface and built-in closet. As the work area is in front of a window to energize the natural light, this is the perfect place to work.
