The breakneck pace of New York is undoubtedly appealing, but it also forces city dwellers to seek quiet sanctuaries within the city limits. That’s why a Turtle Bay family with two young children contacted Décor Aid to convert their townhouse into a quiet residence.

The five-story townhouse was limited in space and lacked a lot of sunlight. So our designer planned to brighten and tweak the space with custom walnut wall units and soothing neutral colors. This family asked for a streamlined, cluttered feel, so we have its numerous storage options behind custom floor-to-ceiling units. Our customers wanted entertainment, so we added a hidden wet bar behind one of the walnut wall units. A kitchen on the second floor saves entertaining journeys up and down, and the bar can be easily stowed away when not in use.

With an affinity for Art Deco lighting and furniture, we’ve juxtaposed these modern details with the traditional architectural elements of the family’s quaint brownstone. Original pieces from the middle of the century, not reproductions, were important to our customers. And so we looked for flea markets, vintage retailers, and real estate sales to get exactly the look our client wanted. To reflect our customers’ Persian heritage, we have carefully sourced a collection of carpets throughout the home.

We have created an impressive entrance with a post-processed wooden floor interrupted by an Art Deco mirror that is original for the house. Glittering chandeliers throughout the room combine the look.
