
There is probably no more classic material than marble. Marble has been an integral part of architecture and design since ancient times and has long impressed people with its natural beauty and subtle opulence. Indeed, marble has been a mainstay in decorative arts throughout history, but it seems especially fashionable right now. If reclaimed wood and copper fittings were the defining materials of the past few years, marble is definitely the design material du jour, which flows into the work of the designers in a familiar and unexpected way. During the numerous shows and exhibitions that took place during this year’s New York Design Week, the material was able to add a sense of timeless luxury and elegance to the items it adorned.
